Stone Carving of a Ram

Handcrafted Stone

by Ellen Sidor

I explore myriad life forms through my sculptures. Images often appear in my dreams and meditations; then I search to find the stones that conceal them. My work these days is small, intimate and handheld. Each unique carving is a statement about the infinite ways that life manifests itself on earth. Stone carving opens me to the timelessness of the natural world and, after 40 years, has fashioned me as well.
— Ellen Sidor

Over 500 of my carvings and mosaics have sold, and my work resides in half a dozen Zen temples, a museum, and many private collections.

Workshops and Individual Instruction Available

My studio is open every Saturday, from 10am-1pm, to individuals and groups eager to learn about stone craft. It is cozy and well-lit. It features a wood stove and a large worktable, and can accommodate groups up to ten people. Kids six and over, who can handle small tools, are welcome. The cost is $20 per person.
